When a tooth has been compromised by either tooth decay or trauma, our dentist may recommend a dental crown to alleviate the pain. A crown is a type of restoration that Dr. Ellen Rudolph Jarvis and William I. Rudolph will use to replace the size, shape, and strength of the tooth. Additionally, crowns can protect a weak tooth from breaking or repair an already broken tooth. There are cosmetic benefits as well: crowns can cover misshapen teeth, discolored teeth, or titanium dental implants. At Rudolph Family Dentistry, our team will help you decide whether a dental crown is right for you.
After meeting with Dr. Ellen Rudolph Jarvis and William I. Rudolph and deciding that a dental crown in Columbus, Indiana, will help you achieve your smile goals, there will be two different visits to our office. During the first visit, the dentist will prepare your tooth, which includes numbing the area and removing a portion of your tooth. This removes the damaged section of the tooth and makes room for the crown. Next, Dr. Ellen Rudolph Jarvis and William I. Rudolph will take an impression of the area, and the impression will be sent away to a dental lab to create your crown. Then, we will use a temporary restoration to protect your tooth while you are waiting on the permanent prosthetic. During your second visit to Rudolph Family Dentistry, our doctor will remove the temporary crown and cement the permanent one in place.
